On Sunday the 30th of June, AFC Stockport held a charity football match day in aid of the North West Air Ambulance Charity.

Held at Stockport Sports Village, the annual football event included a kids’ game, a women’s game and a men’s game. The men’s game was the highlight of the day, where AFC Stockport took on the Jet2 All-Stars team. The All-Stars team included celebrities, soap stars, and ex-professional players.

To help raise funds for the lifesaving charity the team sold tickets to the matches, they had a charity merchandise stall and ran further sponsorship opportunities. A raffle was also held on the day with the top prize being two tickets to anywhere in Europe with Jet2.com and the final amount raised by AFC Stockport was £8,149.

Chris Andrews from NWAA said: “Thank you so much to everyone at AFC Stockport who raised such an incredible amount for our lifesaving work! I know a lot of effort went into making the event such a success, and we are very grateful to everyone for their hard work.

“Thanks so much to everyone who attended on the day too – it was a great turnout and I hope it was an enjoyable day for everyone.”

A Jet2 spokesperson said: “It was fantastic to see the Jet2 All Stars Team take to the pitch in aid of the North West Air Ambulance Charity, and we are delighted to have supported this worthy cause. The North West Air Ambulance Charity is a fantastic charity, and we know the difference the important funds will make in ensuring that they can continue their invaluable work.”

Lee Humphries, Chairman of AFC Stockport, said “Raising money for the North West Air Ambulance Charity was something put in place due to a work colleague needing the service to save his life.

“With myself running a grassroots amateur football club, I decided a football event against some TV All Stars and ex-professionals would be a great way to raise some funds. After a few months of putting this together, we managed to get everything up and running and put on a great day and raise over £8,000 for the charity.”
