An 80-year-old mother and her 53-year-old son are gearing up to take on the challenge of a lifetime by participating in a charity skydive in support of North West Air Ambulance Charity (NWAA).
The dynamic duo, Veronica Ann Holden and Garry Norman Cumming, will be taking to the skies on Saturday 31st August to raise much-needed funds for the charity, which relies on the generosity of the public to carry out its lifesaving work.
Veronica, a mother of six and grandmother to 23, has always been a dedicated supporter of the Charity and has witnessed the incredible work that the air ambulance crew performs, often putting their own lives at risk to save the lives of others. Veronica admires the dedication and bravery of the skilled teams who work tirelessly in all weather conditions to reach those in need, no matter where they are located.
When asked about her motivation to take on this challenge, Veronica shared, “I have always been in awe of the work that the Charity does. They are angels in the sky, saving lives every day without expecting any praise. I am grateful for the opportunity to give back and support such a worthy cause. At 80 years old, I feel like I am living on borrowed time, so I want to make the most of every moment I have left.”
Veronica’s son, Garry, has been her biggest supporter throughout this journey. He has seen firsthand the passion and determination that his mother has for this cause, and he is proud to stand by her side as they take on this exhilarating challenge together.
The mother-son duo will be participating in the skydive with the help of the experienced team at the Black Knights in Preston. The skydive will involve four hours of preparation, including safety talks and practice jumps, before taking the plunge from a plane and landing safely on the ground. Veronica has received clearance from her doctor to participate in the event, ensuring that she is fit and ready for this thrilling adventure.
Rebekah Bullen Calderbank, Events Coordinator at the North West Air Ambulance Charity, said: “Veronica and Garry are an absolute inspiration to all of us here at the charity. It is because of the support of fundraisers like these, plus the generous donations of the public, that we can continue to provide lifesaving care to people in the North West.
“Every donation, no matter how big or small, will make a difference and we are hugely grateful to the duo for their efforts.”
Those who wish to support Veronica and Garry in their fundraising efforts for NWAA Charity can do so by donating on their JustGiving page.
Veronica and Garry’s charity skydive is set to be a memorable and inspiring event that showcases the power of determination and passion for a worthy cause. As they take on this adrenaline-pumping challenge, they hope to inspire others to support NWAA Charity and make a positive impact in their community.
