Susan Riley and her team of bridesmaids started her wedding celebrations by taking part in the Cross Bay Walk
Hundreds of supporters, including a ten-woman strong ‘bride tribe’ walked across the Morecambe Bay sands to raise thousands of pounds for the North West Air Ambulance Charity.
On a sunny Sunday afternoon, 430 walkers crossed from Arnside to Grange-over-sands, dressed in yellow, and collectively raised an amazing £8,365 so far. The event was also supported by 25 volunteers on the day.
Taking part in the walk was bride-to-be Susan Riley – who decided to kick off her hen celebrations by fundraising for the charity.
Susan, who lives in Bilsborrow, near Garstang, had previously raised funds for the charity through her belly dancing group. She decided on the charity’s walk to build-up to her wedding day.
Susan said: “I was looking for something a bit different to start my hen party celebrations. so myself and nine of my friends decided on the walk. It was a great day and everyone was so supportive.
“We’re from the North West and it’s a charity that is really important. You never know when you might need them.”
Led by The Queen’s Guide to the Sands, walkers covered around 7.5miles, to take in a unique and spectacular view of the North West coast in the sunshine.
Heather Arrowsmith, chief executive at the North West Air Ambulance Charity, said: “This year’s Cross Bay Walk was bigger than ever, and the largest mass-participation event we have ever hosted.
“It was inspiring to see so many people walk across the bay in their yellow t-shirts and having the support of Susan and her hen party was a joy.
“I want to thank all our walkers, volunteers and marshals who made the day such a brilliant one.
“We receive no government or NHS funding, and rely solely on the support of the public. Without them, we wouldn’t be able to provide enhanced pre-hospital care to some of the most critically ill and injured patients in the North West.”
