Radio X and the North West Air Ambulance Charity are teaming up to keep the charity flying to save lives. We need you now more than ever, so we’re launching a major campaign to tell audiences more about the life-saving work we do.
Throughout June and July, listeners can hear more from us and the radio station and the life-saving work we do. We receive no government or NHS funding and rely on donations to treat some of the most critically ill and injured patients across the North West.

Read Daniel’s story
32-year-old Daniel McLoughlin, a tree surgeon from Preston was treated by the North West Air Ambulance Charity, after a ‘lucky escape’ in a freak chainsaw accident.
“I was working up a tree cutting a branch with the chainsaw, but in an awkward position. As I cut through, the branch kicked back.
“The chainsaw hit me in my sternum and missed everything vital. I was really lucky. If it hit my neck or anywhere else I would probably be dead.”
“It’s great what the air ambulance do, and I found out the charity don’t receive any funding, so I just wanted to give something back.
What we do
The North West Air Ambulance Charity crew delivers specialist and enhanced pre-hospital care to the most critically ill and injured, and transport patients to the most appropriate hospital to achieve the best outcomes for them. Medical interventions that we provide at the scene of an incident include Rapid Sequence Induction (RSI), administering blood transfusions, analgesia, and many other lifesaving interventions. We receive no government or NHS funding and must raise over £9.5 million to keep us operational. It’s only thanks to the generosity of people like you that we can continue flying to save lives.
